PhotoSweeper App Reviews

Terrible

I bought this after reading some good reviews and I don’t get it. The instructions are terrible and it doesn’t work. It supposedly found over 40G of duplicate photos and deleted them and I gained NO disk space. Very disappointing. Don’t waste your money.

Works Great!! Great tool

I used the free version first and it worked so well that I upgraded. Worth the money for the upgrade. Highly recommend for cleaning up your photos.

A terrible waste of $10 - don’t bother.

In no way does this software logically present duplicates like you think it would. If I could get a refund, I wouldn’t bother writing a review. Since I can’t, I guess this 1 star will do.

Delivers the Goods!

Worked flawlessly on a large collection (about 15,000) photos. Havent tried the "find similar" function; I needed to find exact duplicates, and the app delivered exactly as promised on that count. Highly recommended: Its fast, efficient, and no ads or other sleazebag tactics.

Disappointed

I’m so disappointed!!! This app used to work so well for me and then they updated it and now it doesn’t work at all! I’ll compare two folders of pictures where I know there are duplicates and it will finish and say “no duplicates found” or it will come up with “duplicates” but really they are just similar pictures. Anyone else having this problem? Anyone else have a better solution? I’m so frustrated. Why did they have to change it? It worked great.

PhotoSweeper

Works Great! Dont look any further, try this and you will love it! Easy and quick!

Very (very) helpful app

If you’re like me, you may have ended up with hundreds if not thousands of dups and/or near dups of photos. This app is excellent in helping clean them up. The reviewers posting negative reviews are on crack.

Fast, effective and worth the money.

Quick review. I had 110GB worth of photos, almost exclusively in iPhoto and duplicated in Photos. I installed the app, adjusted the sliders slightly, ran the comparison and it came back with perfect results in maybe 10 minutes. IMPRESSIVE! Instructions to move forward with actions (ex. deleting duplicates….. duh) are very clear and straightforward. One thing of note - deletion is guided, but not automated. You have to take manual steps to actually remove the files and regain your HDD space. However, this is actually a really nice final gut check before you delete everything. Great product, works exactly as described for my situation.

Such a time saver!

I have photos that go back to 2001… and I take a lot of photos! I had over 30k photos and more than 10k were duplicates. I like how it gives you the option to keep the photo that is a bigger file or that’s newer because allows me to keep the higher quality images. It worked in less than 10 minutes and saved about 13.5 GB on my disk. Definitely worth the 10 dollars!

App opens once, then never works again

I ran this app once. It did not find all duplicates so I restarted the app to try different parameters and it will no longer open. The app continually gets hung-up trying to reload the photos and needs Force Quit to shut it down.

Review

Difficult at first . took a while to figure it out

Struggles with my multiple large libraries

Looks like it is mostly successful for others but I find it getting confused as to which library it is working with and fails to find exact duplicates that are clearly right next to each other in Photos. Not sure if I can recommend for users with multiple large libraries. On one occasion I did a duplicate search and then trashed the duplicates but it put the duplicates photo album that it created into another library than the one the duplicate photos came from. Took me hours to sort out and correct. The media browser, while in Photosweeper does not show all libraries on the computer. Adding photo libraries to the media browser creates errors in metadata. I think that all the errors that I encountered were related to the fact that I have multiple and large photo libraries that Photosweeper had difficulty keeping segregated for some unknown reason maybe no fault of its own. Please note that I have photo libraries across a 2TB internal drive, 3 external drives 2 of which are 4bay Drobos totalling around 10 TBs adding complexity to the task. I am still giving the app 3 stars and would say that with 99 of users with typical Photos libraries will not encounter the issues that I did.

Third times a charm.

Third app I tried and finally was released of about 12000 duplicates

All App Developers Should Provide this Level of Support!

Others have already described the excellent and polished nature of PhotoSweeper, so I won’t discuss that. Instead, I wanted to commend the develpers for how quickly and thoroughly they addressed a question I had about the app. I emailed the PhotoSweeper developers about archiving duplicate photos rather than deleting them (I’m sure it’s in the manual, but I didn’t find it). I sent the email at 10:35 AM and received a response from the developer at 10:50AM - in only 15 minutes! Not only was the response incredibly prompt, it was very detailed with both text and screenshots to walk me through the process. I know develpers can be busy, so I’m used to waiting for several days for a response (or in some cases, never getting one). The support from the PhotoSweeper developers was welcome surprise. Great service!!

Not Finding All Duplicates in Photos

Worked great in iPhoto when I first started using it. In Photos, it doesn’t find all the duplicated. I ‘eyeball’ scanned my photos after running it multiple times with multiple settings and found duplicate photos with duplicate names. Needed to fish them out manually. Why is that?

Best Out There

Between all the phones, cameras, backups and cloud storage we’ve used over the past few years I had photos everywhere and they just ended up being in a large unorganized folder (to scared to delete anything). I needed a duplicate finder that actually compared the images rather than file names. I ran the process overnight with almost exact matches and a 10 second time seperation and it found over 60gb of duplicate photos! Hopefully your pictures aren’t as messy as mine, but if they are this app is definitely worth it!

Very happy with this app

It does exactly what it says and is very easy to use. Pleased that it works great with Apple Photos. Highly recommend.

Excellent with Aperture and Yosemite

It saving me tons of hours of time. It’s not a hard program, but you have to develop your work flow. Get to know the program. The ability to simultaneously compare photos across folders, libraries (inside and referenced) and drive (volumes)…match them exact or similar or grouping and auto marking according to criteria you set....are all incredibly useful. I’m still using aperture which is incredibly well supported.

Needs better filtering

Does not allow you to exclude subfolders or paths, forcing you to pick each particular folder in every location, individually... very painful.

Works where others dont

Don’t bother with any of the free apps, they are mostly garbage. Get the free trial for this app like I did to make sure you actually have enough duplicates to make the $10 worth your while. It’s worth the $10 anyhow in my opinion.
